Based on his answers to those questions, I think I'll just be liberal with the Sunken Ruins encounter, and let the diving bell halve the normal penalty for non-aquatic races who stage out of it. He'll talk his shipmates into launching a dive every few sessions, I reckon. Turns out the bell is big en...

[50F] Diving bells

One of my players wants to make a Scurillian who was inspired by the Visitors' diving bell design and engineered one of his own for fun and profit. He explicitly wants not to be an aquatic or breath diver race, and he wants to be the high Repair skill "McGuyver" of the group. I want to giv...

I second ValhallaGH. I ran the originals long ago and I just got the Explorer's Edition in the mail. Looking through it is like a dream come true, except it's a dream I didn't even know I had. My first thought was, "the old version was awesome fun, but how did I live without this one?"

[50F] Getting back to Caribdus after 9 years

50 Fathoms was the first Savage setting and plot point campaign I ever ran, and I had a blast. Now I've moved to a new town and rounded up some players, and they picked 50 Fathoms to play first. Now I find out that an explorers' edition is being released at the end of the month! Just sharing my joy....

Hopeless Gamer blogged his excitement over this, plus a few requests: http://thehopelessgamer.blogspot.com/20 ... avage.html

I dunno about all of it, but replacing an intro adventure with several One Sheets of different genres sounds like a great idea.

Help with mass battle

A key element of the Mass Battles (at least, the few I have played/GMed) is the +/- bonuses for tactics. Without that, the system becomes dull dice-rolling with little player input. So the GM should describe the situation and encourage the players to describe how they are best taking advantage of i...

HOW IT CAME TO BE As promised, here's how the dungeon is laid out. I swiped most everything from the internet (freely-available maps from WotC and other sources), and I improvise much of what I didn't swipe. Instead of dwelling on specific details, I thought it would be interesting to talk about how...

Steal My Dungeon

During a holiday break from my Sundered Skies campaign, I decided to run a "simple hack-n-slash" dungeon crawl using SWEX and the Fantasy Companion. Simple? Ha! Apparently, that's not how I roll. So I came up with this. I like it enough that I want you guys to steal it for yourselves. Unle...

I understand the fuzziness inherent in the whole venture. I don't worry particularly about fractions and such, because the thresholds at which stuff happens would be whole-number amounts, and since anything less is ignored once heroes rest, accuracy down to the tenths place isn't super important sin...

I agree and disagree. XP budgets and stuff is over the top, but I might like a little more fidelity than triggers and winging it would provide. I realize that, instead of how challenging something is to the players, I really just want to express how important it is to maintaing its faction's foothol...

Help me savage AngryDM's Project Slaughterhouse

This is really inspiring (and really long, and necessary to understand anything that follows): http://angrydm.com/2010/08/schrodinger-chekhov-samus/ You can probably get by just reading pages 3 and 4, but I recommend the whole thing. I'd like to run something similar in Savage Worlds, but have floun...

Hellfrost has a Tactician edge that gives a player extra initiative cards face down at the beginning of a combat. He can look through them and use them or give them to other players when initiative is dealt each round, replacing the old initiative card. Once they are gone, they are gone. You might g...

What about using the Quickness power? Maybe when a player is dealt a joker, he or any character of his choosing acts as if he had Quickness cast on him. In this case, Quickness has a duration of 1 round and cannot be maintained. His character wouldn't actually be casting or doing anything, his or an...

Cool, very gratifying! I ran ZR this weekend with a mix of friends and strangers. Preacher and Doctor were quickly discarded. Mechanic got several long looks, but was passed up each time. Outlaw Biker, Varsity Son, and Trucker were favorites, while Accountant was chosen over Firefighter after some d...

And on the subject of +1d6 vs. X, again I don't know how it's explained in the Toolkit, but I have personally taken to state that such bonuses do not stack with each other. So if, say, someone has the Giant Killer Edge (+1d6 vs. Large creatures) and a sword that deals +1d6 vs. Demons and they go up...
