Re: New shaken nerfs some powers, any fixes?

My group has discussed this issue a bit. One solution we came up with was a slight tweak to the new Shaken rules to make raises matter again. So the spirit roll to remove the shaken condition works like this: Fail: Character remains shaken Success: The character is unshaken but takes a -2 on any tra...

Re: How to turn around a combat

BENNIES! Yeah, I have to cop to the fact that I don't always have the best handle on the benny economy. I stay on top of tapping hindrances and rewarding creative play but I'm not always the best at doling out bennies when the team has made mistakes or gotten into a spot. I'll try to remember that ...

Re: Off-Hand Attacks (and some ideas concerning them)

I have generally played it as kicking is an unarmed strike that doesn't incur any offhand penalties. It does strength damage (unless the PC has martial artist) and would incur a multi-action penalty (unless if is the second attack of a character with the two-fisted edge). The ambidextrous edge still...

Re: How to turn around a combat

The setting and campaign stuff are a little incidental to the question. I'm also trying to avoid calling them stupid if at all possible. I know combat can get wild and I know that there are no guarantees when the dice start rolling. The players realise the importance of planning and they do wh...

How to turn around a combat

Greetings! As a little background, in the last session of our Rippers campaign, the hunting party had travelled to Egypt and was collecting a needed Eygptologist from a suspicious cafe thus ending up in The Scarab savage tale. The party started combat on a back foot due to a confluence of events fro...

Re: How can I help my players be more decisive?

I have similar troubles in my Rippers campaign when my players are in the position to create a plan. I've been trying to hurry them along to keep the game from getting bogged down and here's what I have been trying: 1. Straight out telling them they are running out of time as players and need to fin...

Re: What's in a (skill) name?

I use the following... ⋅ Athletics merges Climbing and Swimming. They can also roll it for their running die if they want. ⋅ Tracking is merged into Survival. ⋅ Investigation is renamed to Research, to clarify what it's actually used for. ⋅ Gambling and Persu...

Re: [RIPPERS RESURRECTED] First plot point campaign?

Mileage will vary but I think having all the heavy hitters from the Cabal coming back means a lot less to a group of players that didn't actually defeat them in the first place. Like, I don't think it would be crucial to run the campaign just that you miss that moment of "Oh yeah, I remember Hy...

Re: [RIPPERS RESURRECTED] First plot point campaign?

That's the one, yes. As someone with limited prep time who is currently running the old campaign for a first time group, I can tell you that there isn't too much work involved in carrying it over. I've probably even given myself more work than I needed to because the group chose between old system a...

ROF, Auto & Ammo Consumption

Hi, My players have started to acquire some high ROF weapons in our Ripper campaign, while discussing them we found the rules around Rate Of Fire to be unclear and need some help. Per pg 49 SWD, the player with the gatling pistol chooses to roll only one shooting die which would seem to use only one...

[RR] Noble Edge and Status

Hi,

There's been some confusion at our table about how the Noble edge affects status level. Does a character with the Noble become upper class (getting a +1 from Noble and a +1 for being Rich) or do they simply gain a +1 for being Noble?

Thanks in advance!

(I figured I would make this a whole post on its own so it doesn't get too Wall of Text like.) With naught but a short Deadlands primer, my players came back with some really great characters that my reductive summary here will do little justice. We have: Rosalyn Davis The daughter of a corrupt Sher...

(DLR: Coffin Rock) Getting Back Into The Saddle.

This thread is hopefully going to be my little chronicle of the campaign complete with plans, doubts, breaking down what is working and what isn't. It's probably going to be me being excited a lot because I have been pining to run Deadlands for a long time now. I may occasionally ramble and a whole ...

I already stated that fencing was the one exception... That and Street Fighter. Heh. Anyway, give both a real sword, shield, lay some armor on and see who wins then. The gymnast might be able to "aim well" for a swing or two, but that doesn't mean he'll get past the shield of the other gu...

I like the names Roscoe Derringer and Dapto Rowlands. I also have a recurring law-type character called Dakota Staite (who may or may not be the female version of Brisco County Jr.)

I'm not so sure that lumping players with an extra hindrance every time they choose to advance their AB is going to make for a rewarding play experience. First of all it's going to make AB:Miracles a lot less attractive than the other ABs with downsides you can potentially avoid. Secondly, some powe...

Bah, who even needs the law, when Deadlands can provide (un)natural justice? Personal history is one of those recurring elements of Westerns, even if they aren't always completely explained. The characters of westerns are often plagued by their past failings, mistakes or wrongdoings. Since you start...

In my first game of SW, I ran the Rippers Unnatural History one shot and four novice characters pretty much demolished the Undead T-Rex before it did anything of note in the fight. (Freakishly good and bad rolling was kinda involved, but still...) So, I guess the moral is not to worry about it too m...
