the edges were actually designed for modern campaigns. 21st century type stuff and were intended to be balanced against modern military grade firearms.

i'm going to give you a dirty little trick.

most of the items you need to run a fantasy setting can be found in SWDEE and the SWFC is primarily there for making your fantasy game feel more like d20.

wound penalties already affect pace. i would instead place encumbrance penalties on a target's parry.
