Super Heroes Showdown

#1 Postby Trigger » Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:43 pm

Has anyone toyed with or come up with any Showdown rules specific for Super Powers or super heroes?

In reading through the Showdown rules on the Powers section, does anyone know how the casting value is determined as far as the penalty? I would like to compute the new Super Powers powers with the Showdown casting value.

I’m going to go a little different route. I like the 2nd version of Super Powers in creating your character with powers and then you're done, no more adding new powers and power points. This works great when creating showdown characters as your one done and move on. I also like the Power Points level at which you have so many points in creating powers. With this said, I think I am going to combine both the Showdown rules as the core system and the SPC2 Campaign Power Levels for choosing number of PP and powers. I will probably start my players at the “Street Fighters” level of 30 power points. Calculating cost of super heroes should be relatively easy as they are calculated normally with the troop builder but the powers will not cost 5 per power. Instead, the super hero will have an additional cost in power points per the Campaign Power Level at which the hero was created at. Example would be a normal character being 120 points total, and then adding in 30 more points if he is designed for a “Street Fighters” battle or total cost of 150. Even if these numbers are inflated over the normal troop builder totals, it will not matter as every super hero will be created in this fashion so points will be balanced. This may be the one time when a player may only control a couple of miniatures instead of squads of miniatures as this is geared towards individual super hero battles. This is still just in the thinking and analyzing process so things may change as time goes on.

I think I've come up with a beginning quick start for any Super Hero using the Showdown Troop Builder and Super Powers Companion 2nd Ed.

This is only a starting basis:

Each Super Hero starts with one of the following:

8 Attribute points and 1 edge
7 Attribute points and 2 edges
7 Attribute points, 1 edge and Super Karma
6 Attribute points and 3 edges
6 Attribute points, 2 edges and Super Karma
5 Attribute points and 4 edges
5 Attribute points, 3 edges and Super Karma

Each Super Hero starts with 7 Skill points to be allocated between Fighting, Shooting, and Throwing with a d4 minimum in each skill

This reflects the extra Major Hindrance in SPC2 for an extra Edge or extra Power Points via Super Karma along with about half skill points in the three basic skills.

When you input this into the troop builder as far as the Edges in Special Abilities , any weapons or armor, and making them a WC, you come up with the base total for your Super Hero in the cost column. Then add the total Power Points they are starting with plus any extra from Super Karma and that is the total point build. From there you can just choose your powers and adjust all your stats accordingly.

I started work on a Super Powers Showdown miniatures sheet for my own personal use (2 to one file).

I decided to incorporate some of my Javascript skills in this fillable PDF. It auto calculates the power points total depending on what Power Level you're creating the Super Hero along with calculating the extra power points from Super Karma.
I added a note as well explaining the Super Heroes Showdown build as far as Attributes, Edges, Skills, Power Points and so on.

(Again, this is for my own personal use)

These look very good. The one thing that occurs to me is that it might be good to have Bonus box for the skills as well. Supers skills can easily exceed d12.

Awesome idea. I totally forgot about that. I have updated the file to incorporate a bonus to skills as shown in the pic above. Thanks for the input. :-D

When you are ready, I'd like the character sheet. I have a few more figures to paint before I am ready.

Only the first (which looks great!) of the 4 images in your last 2 posts is showing up for me. Is anyone else having this problem?

So in using the Fat Dragon Games Capital City printable buildings, I altered one of the static merchandise buildings to a little more of a Fast! Furious! Fun! style!
