[Savage Rifts] The Great D-Bee Race Conversion Thread

#1 Postby RockabillyRebel » Mon Jun 27, 2016 3:51 pm

As a lot of us know, there's hundreds of playable races on Rifts Earth. Only a small fraction have been detailed so far, but we are given rules to create or recreate our favorite D-Bees.

This thread will be just for that.

Remember when converting, to convert the concept and not the numbers.

I'll start off with a race of drunk, high, pissed off, psionic gorillas.

N'mbyr Gorilla Men

Tough and Strong: Starts off with a D8 in Strength and a D6 in Vigor

Natural Psionic: Starts off with AB: Psionics, with 10 ISP and 3 Powers

Gorilla Rage: Gains the Berserk Edge

Heightened Senses: Low Light Vision and Keen Sense: Vision

Slow

Distinctive D-Bee

"Lightweight"-  -4 to resist the effects of alcohol and recreational drugs

Restricted Path: Magic

Quick to Anger: -2 Charisma

Habit (Major) Drugs or Alcohol
Yo momma's so ugly, people gotta make a Fear check at -4 whenever she walks into the room.

Okay, gonna do one of my favorites - the Tirrvol Sword-Fist! This was a tough one - they have a LOT of benefits in RIFTS, and so I had to stretch the drawbacks just a tad, and I also had to skip giving them natural psionics. But I still think they worked out.

=====================================================================

Mighty Warriors - Tirrvol start with a d8 in Strength, and the max is d12+2.

Natural Weapons - The natural weapons of the Tirrvol are very potent, and they're quite adept at using them. Their swords each do Strength+d8 Mega Damage, with an AP of 2. In addition, they start with a d6 in Fighting, plus the Two-Fisted and Ambidextrous edges. Lastly, their bladed appendages give them a +1 to Parry. NOTE: Many Tirrvol pursue the path of the Cyber-Knight. If they do, they may summon their psi-sword "over" one or both of their blade-fists. In that case, use the Psi-sword stats rather than the stats for these natural weapons, though Tirrvol still gain the benefit of their innate Edges, Fighting skill and Parry bonus.

Fast Healers - Tirrvol heal faster than humans, and will even regrow lost appendages over time. They have the 3-point version of the Regeneration Positive Racial Ability.

Big Fellow - Size +2. Tirrvol are between 8 and 12 feet tall, and weigh between 250 and 500 pounds.

Weird-looking - Tirrvol are REALLY recognizable. They have both the Distinctive D-bee and Non-standard Physiology traits, plus the Ugly Hindrance.

Can't Say "Abracadabra" - Tirrvol have a hard time with the languages that are most conducive to magic; as a result, Tirrvol can't pursue any magic arcane backgrounds.

Look Ma, No Hands - Tirrvol have prehensile feet, but they aren't quite as agile as human hands. They have the All Thumbs Hindrance.

Noble Spirit - Tirrvol are noble, honorable creatures. They have the Code of Honor, Heroic, and Loyal Hindrances.

I Already Have Swords For Hands! - Tirrvol don't get additional cybernetics. They're fine with the nano-tech of the Cyber-knights, of course, but they can't become Juicers or Crazies.

Stranger In A Strange Land - Tirrvol are actually quite intelligent, but they have a hard time speaking and understanding most languages that aren't their own. As a result, they're always a little behind the curve and have a -1 to all Smarts rolls, including common knowledge rolls.

Evolutionary Lottery - Tirrvol have a lot of natural advantages and few true weaknesses. As a result, they rarely have to push themselves as hard as other races, and so start each session with one fewer Benny (as per the Bad Luck Hindrance).

===========================================

They ended up with 18 (!) points of positive racial abilities, and 16 points of negative. The one "gimme" I gave them was having their bladed weapons do Mega-Damage; I didn't think it was that big of a deal since A.) most melee weapons in Savage Rifts do MD, B.) they can't really use other weapons, meaning they wouldn't really have a way to access Mega-Damage (other than Psi-swords) without it, and C.) they did MD in original Rifts (not a huge deal, but it's nice to keep as much consistent as possible).

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but per forum rules please don't post any actual converted material here. You can post it elsewhere (another forum or personal webpage, for example) and link back here. Thanks!

The Phoenix, a custom race rules created D-Bee, tailored for the Burster Iconic Framework:

Unicorn and Pegasus
UPDATED!
viewtopic.php?p=446745#p446745

And yes, as anyone can see from my avatar I am a fan of MLP, however, these are meant to be closer to the unicorn's and pegasus' mythological origins. I won't bring ponies into Rifts Earth. Not yet. Maybe.

I had to fudge a little bit with the "No Hands" thing. It's sort of a combination of Non-Standard Physiology + One Arm Hindrance + a little bit more because its more restrictive than both. I could use a critique on that hindrance, or perhaps a better way to handle it.

Maybe so!

Edit: Ehhh, I removed my Grey race. I wasn't happy with it. Seemed rushed and not all that well thought out.

Ponies: Someone had to do it!

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tJL ... sp=sharing

I actually typed this up the night after the PDF came out, but I wasn't sure where to post it.

And hey, they make better PCs than psi-ponies, right? :P

Well, looks like publishing this actually caused some formatting errors, but I'm too tickled to resist!

So please, poke fun at the Adolescent D-Bee Warrior Reptiles!

That was really well done...
I would have used the Flamewind dragon as the basis (going with a RCC feel) considering the creature. (I have always felt the phoenix should be on par with dragons).

This is a race, not an Iconic Framework, since I created it specifically to be used with the Burster IFW. :)

I still enjoy your take (enough to not bother with my own).
Just noting a difference in our style of approach.

Oh, don't let me stop you! Somebody else out there may be interested in an IFW version of a Phoenix! :) Go for it. :)

Right! Anything can pop through a rift, even different versions of the same kind of creature. Who says there's only one kind of phoenix in the megaverse? :D

I made a few tweaks to my mythological-style unicorn and pegasus, further detailing their communication capabilities.

I might re-post my Grey alien concept for critique and suggestion.

On Google Docs under the File menu you can hit Publish to the Web. :D Doesn't seem to respect some formatting stuff when you do that though. :?

Ok, I'll post it back when I get a chance, then. I just looked it over after posting it and it didn't feel complete. Or maybe it was overdone and that's what was making me unhappy with it. I dunno.

Or maybe.... I got too close to the truth, and after a visit and a mind wipe I was made to remove it... :o
